Wizz Air reroutes Abu Dhabi-Yerevan flights amid regional airspace closures

Wizz Air’s Abu Dhabi-Yerevan flights have not been canceled, but rerouted to avoid Iranian and neighboring airspace amid the escalation of regional tensions. As a result, the flight duration has increased by nearly two hours.

A passenger told Panorama.am that while the flight was originally scheduled to depart Abu Dhabi at 16:05 and land in Yerevan at 19:30, the new estimated arrival time at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport is 21:15. The journey will now take approximately 5 hours and 10 minutes instead of the planned 3 hours and 25 minutes.

The rerouting follows Israel’s strikes on Iran, which prompted several Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, to close their airspace. The move has led to widespread flight cancellations, delays and diversions across the region.

Armenia’s Civil Aviation Committee had initially announced the cancellation of several routes, including Abu Dhabi-Yerevan, but later updates from Zvartnots Airport clarified that the flights remain operational with an altered path.
